1. Use of the Service

Waffoo Search is an AI-powered research discovery platform designed to help researchers, students, and professionals find and organize scientific evidence. You may use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms.

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for any unlawful, harmful, or fraudulent purpose
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service or its systems
• Scrape, crawl, or systematically extract data from the platform without our written permission
• Reproduce, distribute, or commercially exploit any content from the Service without authorization
• Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service
• Circumvent or abuse API rate limits imposed by Waffoo AI or any third-party data provider
• Impersonate any person or entity or misrepresent your affiliation

2. Account Registration

To access certain features, you must create an account. Waffoo Search uses passwordless sign-in (email magic links and Google sign-in). You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information and to keep it updated. You are responsible for maintaining the security of the email account used to sign in and for all activity under your account.

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.

3. Third-Party APIs, Data Sources, and AI Processing

Waffoo Search retrieves research content from many third-party APIs and databases — including scientific literature and citation databases (e.g., PubMed/NCBI, Europe PMC, OpenAlex, Semantic Scholar, Crossref, arXiv, bioRxiv/medRxiv, Springer Nature, Cochrane), clinical and public-health authorities (e.g., ClinicalTrials.gov, NIH, CDC, WHO, NICE), government and open-data sources (e.g., Congress.gov, the Federal Register, GAO, Library of Congress, Data.gov, OECD), and book/multimedia archives (e.g., Google Books, YouTube, Open Library/Internet Archive, OAPEN, Vimeo, Dailymotion). By using the Service, you agree that your search queries may be transmitted to these providers to retrieve results, and you acknowledge that your use of content from these sources is also subject to their respective terms. AI Processing: We use third-party AI providers — Google (Gemini API), Hugging Face, and Jina AI — to interpret, expand, and rank your search queries. Your queries may be transmitted to these providers for processing. Their respective terms apply (e.g., Google Gemini API terms: https://ai.google.dev/terms).

You acknowledge that the third-party data sources and APIs impose their own attribution, usage, and licensing requirements, and that content retrieved through the Service may be subject to restrictions imposed by the originating provider — including, in some cases, limits on storage, redistribution, or commercial reuse. The data providers do not sponsor, endorse, or are affiliated with Waffoo AI, and their inclusion does not imply any such relationship. When you use content retrieved through the Service, you agree to comply with the originating provider's terms.

Waffoo AI does not control the availability, accuracy, or continuity of third-party data sources or AI providers. We reserve the right to add, remove, or replace integrations at any time, and will update these Terms and our Privacy Policy accordingly.

4. Intellectual Property

All platform content, features, and functionality — including software, design, and AI-generated outputs — are the exclusive property of Waffoo AI, protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

Research content retrieved from third-party sources remains the property of the respective rights holders. Waffoo AI does not claim ownership over third-party research content displayed through the Service.

You retain ownership of content you create within the platform (annotations, notes, library collections). By uploading content, you grant Waffoo AI a limited, non-exclusive license to store and display it solely to provide the Service to you.

5. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND. WAFFOO AI DOES NOT WARRANT THAT:

• The Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely secure
• Search results will be complete, accurate, or current
• AI-generated summaries or query expansions are free from errors or omissions
• Third-party APIs will remain available or return consistent results

Waffoo Search is a research discovery tool and is not a substitute for professional medical, legal, or scientific advice. Users should independently verify all research findings before relying on them for professional, clinical, or academic purposes.

6. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WAFFOO AI SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE OR ANY THIRD-PARTY API CONTENT RETRIEVED THROUGH IT.

Our total liability for any claims under these Terms shall not exceed the amount you paid to Waffoo AI in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim, or $100, whichever is greater.

7. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at our sole discretion, with or without notice, if you violate these Terms. You may terminate your account at any time by contacting hello@waffooai.com.

8. Privacy

Your use of the Service is governed by our Privacy Policy, incorporated into these Terms by reference. Please review it at waffooai.com/privacy.

9. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you by email or platform notice at least 14 days before material changes take effect. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

10. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by the laws of the District of Columbia, United States. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in the District of Columbia.
